Processed Fruit Products
The 2021-2030 Fruit and Vegetable Processing Development Plan for Son La Province aims to create an efficient, safe, and sustainable fruit and vegetable processing industry. It focuses on meeting production and market demands, employing advanced technology linked to large-scale production areas, ensuring high-quality, safe, and competitive products. The plan seeks to boost fruit and vegetable exports globally, attract investment in large and medium-sized processing facilities, and develop modern processing companies that are regionally and globally competitive. Additionally, it aims to enhance value-added processing, increase farmer and business incomes, protect the environment, and effectively address climate change.
Effectively implementing this plan will boost production, establish resource zones for processing, and create strong economic momentum. It will facilitate the consumption of local fruits and vegetables, alleviate market challenges, enhance the sector's value, increase incomes, and contribute to socio-economic development, particularly in rural areas.
From 2021 to 2023, Son La Province approved six new investment projects, including the Doveco Fruit and Vegetable Processing Center, Glucose BHL Son La Liquid Sugar Plant, Nafoods Northwest Agro-processing Plant, Moc Chau Agricultural Product Processing and Preservation Project by Northwest Trading Co., Moc Chau High-Tech Dairy Farm by Moc Chau Dairy Cattle Breeding Co., and Son La Coffee Processing Plant. To date, two of these plants have been completed and are operational.
The Doveco Son La Fruit and Vegetable Processing Center features a state-of-the-art agro-processing facility with technology from Italy, Japan, and China. It has an annual capacity of 52,000 tons, with production lines for freezing, canning, drying, and other products. Currently, the raw material supply area for Doveco's export processing center in Mai Son spans 728.3 hectares. To date, Dong Giao Export Food Co. has procured 463 tons of various agricultural products for the plant, including 59 tons of passion fruit from Moc Chau, 90 tons of sweet corn from Song Ma, and 314 tons of spinach from Mai Son and Song Ma.
In addition, the province is focusing on developing raw material zones for various plants. For example, the IC Food Van Ho Plant is processing cabbage, sweet mustard, carrots, and pickled Chinese cabbage, with 1,094 tons of vegetables processed in the first half of the year, including 361 tons of cabbage, 84 tons of mustard greens, 309 tons of carrots, 172 tons of sweet mustard, and 167 tons of Chinese cabbage. Meanwhile, Nafoods Northwest has begun processing passion fruit for the 2024 season, with over 300 tons of raw passion fruit purchased so far this year.
Moving ahead, the province will intensify scientific research and apply advanced technologies in fruit and vegetable processing and preservation. It aims to expand raw material zones for processing, boost small-scale processing facilities with technology suited to local products, diversify processed fruit and vegetable types, and enhance logistics and supporting industries. Investments will focus on developing cold supply chains and related export services. The province will also continue attracting reputable investors, companies, and groups with experience in processing and exporting fruits and vegetables.
