(en.sonla.gov.vn) In recent years, Son La province has emerged as one of the country’s leading localities in developing clean and safe agricultural production to meet both domestic and export market demands. By implementing comprehensive solutions in production, processing, and product distribution, the province has gradually increased the incomes of farmers, cooperatives, and businesses, making a significant contribution to local economic development.
Unlocking potential and strengthening production linkages
Son La has favorable natural conditions, including vast agricultural land and a climate well-suited for fruit trees and industrial crops. Recognizing this potential, the province has focused on supporting farmers and businesses in agricultural investment, encouraging partnerships between farmers and enterprises, and promoting the establishment of cooperatives to drive sustainable development.
Previously, cooperatives in Son La operated on a small scale, with limited infrastructure and an untrained management workforce, resulting in low business efficiency. However, with strong support from local authorities, these cooperatives have made significant progress, gradually improving their production and business capabilities, helping Son La’s agricultural products reach broader markets.
Developing agriculture with science and technology applications
Son La currently has over 84,000 hectares of fruit trees and son tra (Docynia indica), yielding nearly 380,000 tons annually. Many fruit-growing models have generated high incomes, ranging from 200 to 400 million VND per hectare. Notably, custard apple cultivation can bring in up to 350 million VND per hectare, while strawberry farming can reach 420 million VND per hectare. Thanks to these advancements, many farmers have not only escaped poverty but have also become millionaires and even billionaires.
Breakthroughs in agricultural production
At the same time, Son La is actively promoting high-tech applications in agriculture, driving significant improvements in productivity and product quality. High-tech agricultural zones are being expanded, paving the way for a modern and sustainable agricultural sector.
Agricultural development goals for the coming period
Building on its achievements, Son La aims to reach a total output of over 8.87 trillion VND in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries by 2025, marking a 4.9% increase compared to 2024. To achieve this goal, the province is focused on restructuring the agricultural sector to enhance value-added production, aligning it with market demands and incorporating scientific and technological advancements into the production process.
Additionally, the province is committed to completing the project to establish Son La as the agricultural processing hub of the Northern Midlands and Mountainous region. This strategic move aims to add value to agricultural products, creating favorable conditions for Son La’s products to penetrate demanding markets such as Europe, the United States, and Japan. With a clear direction and strong involvement from both local authorities and residents, Son La is steadily making breakthroughs in agricultural production, contributing to the local economic development and improving the livelihoods of its people.
