Geographical location of Son La province
Son La province in the center of the Northwest region has a natural area of 1,410,983 hectares including 12 district-level administrative units. It is the third largest province in the country, accounting for 39% of the Northwest region and equal to 4 15% of the total natural area nationwide.
The provincial administrative center is 302 km northwest of Hanoi capital. Geographic coordinates: From 20039' to 22002'north latitude; From 103011' to 105002' east longitude.
The North borders Lai Chau and Yen Bai provinces. The South borders Thanh Hoa province and Lao PDR. The East borders Hoa Binh province and Phu Tho province. The West borders Dien Bien province. Son La has a common border with Laos that is 250 km long; Having Chieng Khuong and Long Sap national border gates is an advantage for Son La to trade and exchange economically with the Northeastern provinces of Lao PDR.
