Son La focuses on caring for fruit trees to serve the export market
(en.sonla.gov.vn) In recent years, Son La province has affirmed its position as one of the country's major agricultural commodity production centers, especially in fruit trees. With the orientation of developing sustainable agriculture associated with export, Son La province is focusing on implementing many solutions for caring for fruit trees with the right techniques to improve productivity and product quality and meet the increasing demands of international markets.

Currently, most fruit trees in the province are in the flowering and fruiting stage - the "golden" time for cooperatives and farming households to step up care, creating a foundation for a highly effective harvest. In all areas specializing in mango, longan, banana, plum, grapefruit, etc., cooperatives have been actively disseminating techniques, instructing members and associated households to proactively implement crucial care measures such as pruning flowers, removing diseased branches, excess branches, and dominant branches so that the trees can centralize nutrients on growing fruit. At the same time, ensuring irrigation water sources has also been enhanced, especially in the context of many unusual weather fluctuations.

Notably, Son La province is gradually affirming its export fruit brand, of which mango is one of the main fruits. Mango export growing areas have been worked out, associated with licensed growing area codes, and strictly managed. Cooperatives and farmers are trained on using pesticides according to the permitted list, ensuring the pre-harvest isolation period according to the regulations of importing countries such as China, Australia, Korea, Japan, etc. It is considered a key factor in ensuring food safety and clear traceability, thereby enhancing the value and competitiveness of Son La fruits in the world market.

Song Ma district guides people to apply scientific advances in fruit tree cultivation.

In Song Ma district - the capital of longan trees in Son La province, there are currently about 7,760 hectares of longan, of which more than 900 are outspread. Now, the People's Committee of Song Ma district is directing communes, the town, and agricultural cooperatives to strengthen the management of growing area codes, conduct periodic inspections, and review and supplement records for granting new growing area codes to expand the area eligible for export. In addition, the district also focuses on training and educating people on care techniques, fertilization, and pest control in the direction of safe agriculture, meeting VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards. The close coordination between specialized agencies and local authorities has helped raise awareness and production capacity for people, gradually forming specialized production areas according to sustainable value chains.

In 2024, Son La's agricultural sector continues to set high export targets for many key agricultural products. Of which, the estimated export output is 8,900 tons of tea, worth 21.9 million USD; 31,700 tons of coffee, worth over 88.77 million USD; 100,000 tons of cassava, worth over 36.8 million USD; 7,600 tons of fresh mango, worth over 1.8 million USD; 7,200 tons of fresh banana, worth 2.1 million USD,... Above statistics are impressive, showing the effectiveness of systematic investment in high-quality agricultural production. With the mighty determination of the government and the active participation of the people, Son La province is gradually building a brand of safe, high-quality agricultural products, conquering demanding markets, contributing to increasing people's income, promoting rural economic development, and making a positive contribution to the country's export turnover.
