In 2025, the province aims to have 30 more OCOP products

The One Commune One Product (OCOP) program is being actively implemented by Son La province to promote rural economic development by leveraging local strengths and increasing product value. In 2025, the province aims to have 30 more OCOP products, thereby contributing to the effective, practical, and sustainable implementation of the National Target Program on New Rural Development for the 2021–2025 period.

Son La province currently has over 200 advantageous agricultural products with high economic and commercial value, which have the potential to be developed into OCOP products, including five main categories: food, beverages, herbal products, souvenirs, and rural tourism services. Capitalizing on this potential, the province has focused on developing products under the OCOP program, aiming to promote the organization of production and business models for products and services with local advantages in communes, wards, and towns. It also seeks to effectively implement the criterion of 'Economy and production organization' in the national set of criteria for new rural development. Localities are also accelerating the building of value chains and transforming people's production mindset from small-scale operations to large-scale, high-value commodity production

After more than five years of implementation, the province now has 202 OCOP products, including one 5-star product, 62 4-star products, and 139 3-star products. Cooperatives and businesses have proactively shifted their production mindset, adopted scientific and technological innovations to improve product quality, and strengthened promotion and sales through digital platforms. Many products have made their way into supermarket chains, agencies, and retail stores both inside and outside the province. In 2025, the province aims to have an additional 30 products rated three stars or higher.

The OCOP program has sparked a strong entrepreneurial movement, fostering the development of clean agricultural production zones and high-tech agriculture associated with value chain linkages. It has contributed to the transformation of the rural economic structure, the creation of tourism products, and the improvement of income and living standards for local people, thereby advancing new rural development across the province. The program has brought a fresh 'breeze' to agricultural production. OCOP products are gradually becoming a driving force encouraging people to compete in production, collaborate in value chain-based models, increase their income, and effectively support the implementation of the National Target Program on New Rural Development at the local level.
