(sonla.gov.vn) On April 12, 2024, the Committee on Foreign Non-Governmental Organizations held a national online conference reviewing 2023 activities and outlining plans for 2024. Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Hang chaired the central session, Son La province's Department of Foreign Affairs led the regional meeting.

The conference concurred that in 2023, the fast-evolving and complex global and regional conditions, coupled with the post-COVID-19 impacts, presented major challenges for all nations, international organizations, and foreign NGOs.
In this context, the Party and State continue to prioritize public diplomacy, including foreign NGO activities. Central and local agencies have uniformly renewed and enhanced their efforts to manage and engage with foreign NGOs effectively.
Foreign NGOs generally adhere to the Party's policies and state laws, effectively coordinating with Vietnamese agencies and partners. Their activities contribute to the country's overall socio-economic development and benefit local regions.
In 2023, foreign NGOs and international entities disbursed over $228.7 million in aid to Vietnam, up $4.9 million from 2022. This increase reflects significant efforts by ministries, agencies, and local authorities in coordinating and managing these activities.

In Son La, 31 foreign NGOs are currently registered. In 2023, the province received 6 programs and projects, totaling nearly $4.9 million in aid. This support focuses on sustainable development, including community capacity building, awareness raising, livelihood enhancement for ethnic minorities, agriculture, climate change mitigation, healthcare, and education. Son La will continue to effectively implement the 2020-2025 Program to Enhance Cooperation and Foreign NGO Engagement, concentrating on agriculture, education, healthcare, environmental resources, and social issues.
In conclusion the meeting, Mr.Nguyễn Minh Hằng emphasized that ministries, agencies, and localities must strengthen state management of foreign NGO activities. There should be regularly exchange information and coordinate closely between local and central authorities to manage and monitor activities and aid, ensuring compliance with security, political, and diplomatic requirements while supporting socio-economic development.
