Compared to the previous month, the consumer price index (CPI) in May 2025 increased by 0.21%. Of the 06 main groups of consumer goods and services, 02 groups of consumer goods had an increased price index, including the food and foodstuff group and the transportation group; 01 groups of consumer goods had a decreased price index, which was the construction materials group; 03 groups of consumer goods had stable price indexes, which were the agricultural supplies group, the medical services group, and the educational services group.

The price index of the food group increased by 1.23% compared to the previous month due to the increase in rice prices because the harvest season had not yet arrived, so the supply in the market had decreased. On the contrary, the food price index decreased by 0.22% compared to the previous month, in which Food decreased mainly due to the pork group decreasing by 0.39% due to increased supply, leading to the price of live pigs after a period of continuous increase, starting to cool down, the prices of fresh pork as well as pork-related products such as ham and sausage also decreased; the prices of fresh poultry and eggs also showed signs of decreasing; the price of beef was stable. The prices of vegetables and tubers decreased by 0.33% due to abundant supply from large production areas during the principal harvest season.

The housing, electricity, water, fuel, and construction materials group index decreased by 0.09% compared to the previous month, mainly due to a 3.04% decrease in kerosene prices due to the impact of gasoline price adjustments, contributing to the drop-in fuel group prices. The rainy weather at the end of the month reduced the demand for electricity and tap water, so the prices of electricity and water decreased. The price of construction materials fluctuated in opposite directions, increasing by 0.52% because businesses and construction contractors carried out new projects, leading to the demand for construction materials and causing the prices of these items to grow. In general, although the price of construction materials tended to increase, the decrease in electricity and kerosene prices dominated, causing the general price index of this group to decrease slightly in the month. The price index of the transportation group in May 2025 increased by 1.05% compared to the previous month. This group increased mainly in transportation products due to the impact of the US government's tax rate, so the prices of motorbikes and cars increased.

In the coming time, the Department of Finance will continue to urge and guide the Departments, branches, and sectors to urgently develop pricing plans for public products and services using the State budget and preside over and coordinate the appraisal of pricing plans of units; coordinate with functional branches to inspect the implementation of State management regulations on price laws, price registration, price declaration, price posting, and selling at listed prices. Directing the finance-planning departments of districts, the town, and the city to coordinate monitoring, synthesizing, analyzing, and reporting market prices according to regulations; continuing to promote information and propaganda work, ensuring objectivity, timeliness, publicity, and transparency of information on prices and price management work of the People's Committee of Son La province. Especially the price developments of crucial materials, essential goods related to production and people's lives, promptly convey to businesses and people, stabilize the psychology of consumers and businesses, and control inflation.
