Preserving and promoting the fine traditional cultural values of Ethnic minorities in association with tourism development.
(en.sonla.gov.vn) Implementing Project 6 on preserving and promoting the valuable traditional cultural heritage of ethnic minorities in connection with tourism development, under the National Target Program for Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas for the 2021–2030 period, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Son La Province has actively implemented numerous activities and achieved encouraging results.

Closely adhering to the guidelines and policies of both the central and local governments, Son La Province has implemented activities in line with the direction set by the Government and central ministries, particularly Prime Minister’s Decision No. 1719 dated October 14, 2021, approving the National Target Program for Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas for the 2021–2030 period, Phase I: from 2021 to 2025. The Provincial People's Committee directed the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to coordinate with the Department of Ethnic Affairs and Religion to review and propose the allocation of funds from the National Target Program's budget to implement sector-related activities. The majority of funding comes from the central government’s budget, directly supporting activities aimed at preserving and promoting the valuable traditional cultural heritage of ethnic minorities in association with tourism development.

Traditional art troupes in villages of ethnic minority and mountainous areas have received support to maintain their operations.

The period from 2022 to 2024, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism implemented the targets outlined in Decision No. 1549 dated August 2, 2024, issued by the Provincial People's Committee on the adjustment of tasks and targets for Project No. 6: Preserving and promoting the fine traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities in association with tourism development for the 2021–2025 period, under Phase I of the National Target Program for Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas for the 2021–2030 period. Specifically, the department: Preserved four traditional festivals in localities where tourism-oriented cultural products are being developed; Organized 17 training courses to enhance professional skills and provide instruction in intangible cultural heritage; Carried out research and preservation of two endangered intangible cultural heritages of ethnic minorities: the Moi Festival of the Muong people, and the traditional sports of Tu lu and crossbow shooting of the Mong people; Developed two models showcasing the traditional cultural life of ethnic minorities: one representing the Mong community in Long Luong Commune, Van Ho District, and another representing the Thai community in Chieng Pan Commune, Yen Chau District; Established 10 folk culture clubs in villages located in ethnic minority, mountainous, and resettlement areas; Provided support for 70 traditional art troupes in villages of ethnic minority and mountainous communities.

In addition, restoration and preservation efforts have been carried out to prevent deterioration at several important historical and cultural sites, including: the Muong Va Tower in Sop Cop District; the Special National Relic Site of the Vietnam–Laos Revolutionary Historical Relic in Lao Kho Village, Phieng Khoai Commune, Yen Chau District; the Temple of King Le Thai Tong in Son La City; the Moc Ly Military Post in Moc Chau District; and the Pha Din Pass historical site in Phong Lai Commune, Thuan Chau District. Among these, three sites have been completed and put into use, while two others are scheduled for continued implementation in 2025. The Department has also partnered with the provincial Radio and Television Station to produce two promotional films at key tourist destinations (Ngoc Chien in Muong La; Ta Xua Commune in Bac Yen; and Doi Village, Tan Lap Commune, Moc Chau), which have been broadcast on Son La Radio and Television. Additionally, the province hosted a workshop on developing tourism products in ethnic minority and mountainous areas; produced two promotional documentaries for the ‘Check-in Vietnam’ segment on VTV3 (Vietnam Television); organized four district-level traditional sports competitions; supported the conservation and investment in a representative traditional ethnic minority village (Ta So Village, Chieng Hac Commune, Moc Chau Town); invested in the construction of 20 cultural and sports facilities in ethnic minority and mountainous villages; and provided 576 sets of equipment to support the operation of these cultural and sports institutions.
