Overview of the workshop.

The project “Registration, Protection, and Development of the Management System for the ‘Son La Macadamia’ certification trademark” for macadamia products of Son La province was approved by the Son La Provincial People’s Committee in 2022. It aims to build and develop a value chain for macadamia nuts through linkages between farmers, cooperatives, and enterprises engaged in purchasing, processing, and marketing, thereby enhancing market competitiveness. The project is led by the Consultancy and Technology Transfer Research Co., Ltd. (CONCETTI) and is one of the key tasks under the Intellectual Property Development Program in the province for the 2021–2025 period, with an orientation toward 2030.

Mr. Han Tuong Minh, Project Director, presented the results of the model’s operation.

After 32 months of implementation, the project’s lead unit, in coordination with the Department of Science and Technology and commune and ward People’s Committees, conducted surveys and assessments of existing cultivation areas, completed registration dossiers, and successfully secured protection for the “Son La Macadamia” certification trademark No. 521266, granted by the Intellectual Property Office under Decision No. 155612/QĐ-SHTT dated December 27, 2024. The project also developed management documents and established a post-certification management system, created a suite of promotional and product introduction tools, and enhanced the capacity of farmers and officials in producing and trading certified products. Additionally, it appraised and granted certification trademark usage rights to three entities: Dat Thuy One Member Co., Ltd.; Lien Viet Son La Joint Stock Company; and Tay Bac Organic Agricultural Production Cooperative. These entities not only meet the product quality standards set by the certification criteria but also help bring certified products to market, with presence in retail chains such as Bac Tom, Hapi Vegan, and Nam Hung 70. However, to maximize effectiveness, further efforts are needed to strengthen promotion, boost trade activities, support licensed entities in building capacity on digital platforms, and expand the model to other localities within the province.

Mr. Luu Duc Thanh, former Director of the Center for Geographical Indication and International Trademark Appraisal under the Intellectual Property Office, delivered a speech at the workshop.

At the workshop, delegates exchanged and discussed experiences in using labels in the trade of agricultural products, the necessary conditions for bringing products into commercial channels, and responsibilities in implementing the management and usage regulations, as well as in maintaining and developing the brand for the province’s agricultural products.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Phong, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, spoke at the workshop.

The effective operation of the “Son La Macadamia” certification trademark is not only a strategic step in developing a key product but also contributes to elevating the Son La agricultural brand in both domestic and international markets.
