Inauguration of Vietnam’s first paper-based food packaging line applying Swedish technology
(en.sonla.gov.vn) On July 2, 2025, at the Doveco Son La factory, Dong Giao food export joint stock company (Doveco), in collaboration with Tetra Pak — a global leader in food processing and packaging solutions — held the inauguration ceremony of the Tetra Recart® packaging line for fruits and vegetables, featuring advanced Swedish technology. This is the first paper-based canned food production line in Vietnam, marking a significant milestone in the shift toward modern, sustainable, and environmentally friendly food  packaging.

Attending the inauguration ceremony were Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Tran Thanh Nam; leaders of various departments and agencies under the Ministry; and representatives from the People’s Committees of Dien Bien and Lai Chau provinces. Representing Son La province were Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Lo Minh Hung; Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Cong; along with leaders of relevant departments and agencies.

Tetra Recart® is an advanced paper-based packaging solution specifically designed for canned foods. It extends shelf life without the need for preservatives or refrigeration. The technology combines high-speed processing with thermal sterilization, preserving the original flavor, texture, and nutritional value of the product while meeting international standards for food safety and environmental sustainability.

With a capacity of up to 6,000 packs per hour, the Tetra Recart® production line not only optimizes manufacturing efficiency and reduces packaging weight and waste, but also offers consumers convenient, safe, and environmentally friendly products. The line is expected to officially begin operation this July, packaging a range of premium agricultural products such as sweet corn, pineapple juice, and assorted beans. These products will be distributed across nationwide retail systems starting from July 2, 2025.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Tran Thanh Nam spoke at the event.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister Tran Thanh Nam emphasized: “The launch of the Tetra Recart® production line is a clear testament to the strong transformation of Vietnam’s agricultural sector toward modernization, sustainability, and international integration. This is not only a technological advancement but also a driving force for promoting consumption, deep processing, and increasing the value of local agricultural products.”

The new line has been implemented at Doveco’s largest factory — a leading enterprise in cultivation and agricultural processing. The adoption of this advanced technology not only reaffirms Doveco’s commitment to innovation and sustainable development, but also contributes to job creation, strengthens agricultural value chains, and boosts incomes for farmers and cooperatives in Son La and the broader Northwestern region.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Cong, delivered his remarks.

According to experts, as Vietnam’s food and beverage industry rapidly expands - projected to reach a market size of USD 96.68 billion by 2025 and continue growing at an annual rate of 6.74% through 2030 — innovative solutions like Tetra Recart® will play a pivotal role in upgrading the sector, enhancing competitiveness, and expanding export markets.

As the world’s first carton-based packaging capable of sterilizing long-shelf-life foods, Tetra Recart® is made from renewable materials (primarily paper), is fully recyclable, and is designed to minimize environmental impact throughout its entire lifecycle — from production and transportation to consumption and post-use processing.
