(en.sonla.gov.vn) Thuan Chau, a sunny and windy land in the Northwest, is changing strongly daily with synchronous solutions toward sustainable, modern, and effective agriculture. From traditional corn fields and cassava hills, the district has now been shaping multi-value agriculture, gradually improving peoples lives and developing the rural economy.
Agricultural restructuring from resolution to action
With the aspiration to escape poverty and promote the unique agricultural potential, the District Party Committee and People's Committee of Thuan Chau District have issued many resolutions and strategic documents, laying the foundation for the restructuring of the agricultural sector. Not only stopping at orientation, the district has proactively concretized the goals into land use planning, agricultural product development, and annual socio-economic development plans. All departments, sectors, and organizations are supposed to participate, linking agricultural development with national target programs to bring practical results.
The tea growing area replaces the corn and cassava fields of the Thuan Chau people.
Up to now, Thuan Chau has 3,911 hectares of fruit trees, 1,377 hectares of tea, and 6,658 hectares of coffee. The whole district maintains over 56,000 buffaloes and 761,000 poultry. 11 value chain production chains have been formed, 25 cultivation facilities have achieved VietGAP certification, and 10 fruit-growing area codes have met export standards. From 2021 to 2024, the district exported hundreds of tons of mangoes, bananas, and dragon fruits to major markets such as China, Russia, and other demanding markets.
Regional development, chain linkage
One of the bright spots in Thuan Chau's agricultural development strategy is the re-planning of production space. The district has identified 03 key agricultural economic zones closely linked to ecological advantages and farming conditions. Each commune is oriented to develop several key agricultural products, creating a concentrated production area for large-scale goods.
Farmers in Thuan Chau district have high incomes from growing coffee trees.
Along with that is the encouragement of enterprises to invest, promoting the linkage of "04 houses": The state, farmers, scientists, and enterprises to ensure stable output for agricultural products. Production linkage models associated with product consumption are gradually becoming an ordinary trend, helping farmers confidently expand their scale.
Training - support - market connection
To improve people's production capacity, Thuan Chau district has implemented many programs to support plant and animal varieties, organize technical training courses, apply high technology in production, and concurrently develop rural transport infrastructure and provide market information in a timely and effective manner. These programs not only contribute to improving people's knowledge and skills but also help them be more confident in applying new agricultural models that are environmentally friendly and have high economic value.
Agriculture is a sustainable pillar.
With a fragmented economy and self-sufficient agriculture, Thuan Chau is emerging as a bright spot in developing high-quality, commodity agriculture in Son La province. This success is the synchronous results from policy to action, from planning to implementation, and from technical support to market connection.
Through continuing to promote local strengths, enhance production linkages, and improve production levels for people, Thuan Chau agriculture not only helps people stabilize their lives but also makes an essential contribution to the sustainable development of the Northwest region.
