According to forecasts, Son La is expected to have a bumper fruit harvest in 2025, with an estimated total output of 510,000 tons, a 31% increase compared to 2024. This information was shared at a conference on agricultural production and harvest forecasts, presented by the Department of Agriculture and Environment. Favorable weather conditions and the expansion of planting areas are the key factors driving this growth. Major crops such as bananas, plums, mangoes, longans, and hawthorns are all expected to see increased yields. Notably, Son La is placing particular emphasis on improving the quality of agricultural products to boost exports.

Currently, the province maintains 218 planting area codes and 8 packaging facility codes for export, with key products including longans, mangoes, macadamia nuts, and passion fruit. The export-standard output is estimated to exceed 35,000 tons, targeting markets such as China, the EU, and other countries. In addition, Son La is also focusing on supplying safe agricultural products to supermarkets and domestic retail chains, with 308 active food supply chains for safe agricultural and aquatic products. The estimated annual supply to the domestic market is over 50,000 tons. To ensure production meets market demand, the conference focused on key issues such as the production, processing, and consumption of the province's main agricultural products, the implementation of policies supporting agricultural development, challenges and solutions for improving the quality and efficiency of production, processing, and export, as well as branding and expanding market access for products.

In his closing remarks at the conference, Vice Chairman of the Son La Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Cong, emphasized the importance of sustainable agricultural development, increasing the added value of agricultural products, and contributing significantly to the province's socio-economic development. He urged relevant departments, agencies, and localities to focus on several key tasks for 2025, including: strengthening investment in research and the application of scientific and technological advancements in production, focusing on selecting seeds, improving farming techniques, and enhancing productivity and product quality. Promoting the development of commodity-based production, concentrating on key products with competitive advantages to meet both domestic and international market demands. He also stressed the need for strong investment in processing industries, building modern processing plants, increasing the added value of products, and boosting trade promotion activities to explore export markets. Organizing fairs, exhibitions, and connecting businesses to expand export markets. Strengthening product quality management to ensure food safety and meet international standards.

In addition, he requested all levels and sectors to strengthen coordination and create favorable conditions for enterprises and farmers in the production, processing, and distribution of agricultural products. At the same time, Son La province affirmed its commitment to continuing to provide the best possible support for agriculture to become a spearhead economic sector, making a positive contribution to the province’s socio-economic development. With these efforts, Son La hopes to enhance the value of its agricultural products, bring economic benefits to farmers, and promote the sustainable development of the local agricultural sector.
