(sonla.gov.vn) In recent times, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Son La province has strengthened external relations, friendly cooperation, exchange and sharing experiences in the field of agriculture and rural development with provinces in Laos. They have supported farmers in Northern Laos provinces to build effective production and livestock models. This collaboration contributes significantly to nurturing the special friendship between Son La and the Northern Laos provinces in particular, as well as Vietnam - Laos in general.
A delegation from the Departments of Agriculture and Forestry of the provinces of Hua Phan, Luong Pha Bang,
and Luong Nam Tha (from the Lao People’s Democratic Republic) visited and exchanged work
with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in Son La province.
Every year, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development organizes delegations to visit Laos, fostering exchange, sharing experiences, and technical knowledge in agricultural production. They collaborate with the Departments of Agriculture and Forestry in Laos to assess climate conditions, soil fertility, and support the implementation of suitable fruit tree cultivation and livestock farming models. Along with that, they create conditions and welcome provincial delegations to visit and learn about agricultural economic models in the province; arrange staff to capture information and promptly provide technical guidance to help the province effectively deploy support models.
From 2020 to the present, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in Son La province has collaborated with the Department of Forestry in Hua Phan province to support farmers in Hua Phan with 17,900 seedlings, these include 5,330 mango trees, over 10,400 pink grapefruit trees, and more than 2,170 late-ripening lychee trees. Currently, the trees are growing well, with minimal pests and diseases, and has begun to be harvested from 2023. The two departments have held meetings to evaluate their coordinated efforts in forest protection, development, and fire prevention in the border area between Son La and Hua Phan in 2023. They also signed a cooperation agreement.
For Luong Pha Bang province, the two departments hold annual meetings to assess their joint efforts in forest protection, development, and fire prevention in the Son La - Hua Phan border area. They have also collaborated on implementing fruit tree models in Phôn Thong and Nam Bac districts. At the same time, the two sides agreed to propose to Son La province to support the implementation of 10 hectares of mango growing model in Phon Thong district and 10 hectares of longan growing model in Nam Bac district, Luong Pha Bang province.
Additionally, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in Son La has worked with the Department of Forestry in Luong Nam Tha province to survey and assess the suitability of weather conditions, climate, and soil in Vieng Phu Kha district. They selected locations for implementing a 20-hectare oranges plantation, a 5-hectares pomelo plantation, and a 25-hectares manges plantation in Tha Luong and Nam Cap villages.
Looking ahead, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in Son La will continue to collaborate with the Department of Forestry in neighboring Laos provinces to investment promotion, agricultural trade, and showcasing the potential for rural agricultural development. Enhance information exchange in the fields of agriculture and forestry; regularly organize working groups to meet, exchange experiences, visit production models in the fields of agriculture, forestry, industry... contributing to strengthening and deepening the special friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Laos provinces and Son La province, are increasingly strong.
