World Bank delegation worked with Son La Provincial People's Committee

During the meeting, the World Bank delegation presented preliminary integrated infrastructure and tourism space planning reports, along with initial investment plans outlining the expected outcomes of technical support aimed at enhancing climate resilience and improving overall livelihoods for Son La province.

After meeting with Moc Chau, Quynh Nhai districts, and the City, the World Bank delegation assessed the challenges that need to be addressed by the localities, including: constructing a tourism ring road to enhance connectivity, upgrading existing road networks; renovating and upgrading the Central Area to be pedestrian-friendly; enhancing the landscape of streams, lakes, and parks within the ring road area; setting up new parking spots in the Central Area; redesigning main roads into Festival Streets; comprehensive infrastructure upgrades to develop community tourism and agricultural experience tourism; and overall enhancement of the stormwater drainage system, including reinforced culverts to improve water drainage throughout the urban core

World Bank (WB) delegation attended the meeting

The delegation proposed that Son La province assign tasks to capable and experienced entities to implement ODA projects in general, and those funded by the World Bank in particular. This coordination aims to closely collaborate with the Bank's research team in technical support implementation, refining plans, investment strategies, and project proposals.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Cong, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee spoke at the meeting.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Cong, Vice Chairman of the Son La Provincial People's Committee, said: “Son La province agrees with the proposal put forth by the World Bank. We have tasked the Planning and Investment Department to collaborate with the research delegation on studying the proposed project items for investment, to unify our principles and methods for investment implementation. This will pave the way for subsequent steps and adjustments, ensuring they align appropriately with provincial planning” Mr Cong expressed his hopes that, based on evaluations and recommendations from the project proposal, livelihoods will improve and investments in infrastructure and technical structures for Moc Chau, Quynh Nhai districts, and Son La city will be enhanced, aiming towards sustainable development goals for the Moc Chau National Tourism Area and potentially establishing the Son La Hydroelectric Reservoir area as a National Tourism Area in the near future.
