of Vietnam to propose the recognition of Moc Chau National Tourism Area

The delegation warmly welcomed and held discussions with the working delegation led by Mr. Ha Van Sieu, Deputy Director of the National Tourism Administration of Vietnam and Chairman of the Evaluation Council for the dossier proposing the recognition of Moc Chau National Tourism Area in Son La province.

In recent times, the Moc Chau National Tourism Area has continued to receive attention and investment from Son La province, with efforts to expand and upgrade its infrastructure and tourism facilities to be comprehensive and of high quality. It has become an attractive destination for tourists both domestically and internationally. In 2023, the tourism area welcomed 2.5 million visitors, generating revenue of over 3,000 billion Vietnamese dong, accounting for 60% of the total tourism revenue of the entire province.

On April 4-5, 2024, the leadership of the Provincial People's Committee and relevant departments and agencies, along with the People's Committee of Moc Chau and Van Ho districts, conducted a survey and held discussions with the Evaluation Council delegation regarding the dossier proposing the recognition of Moc Chau National Tourism Area in Son La province. After the working session, Son La province directed the completion and revision of certain explanatory documents and comprehensive evaluation charts assessing the conditions for the recognition of Moc Chau National Tourism Area based on the feedback from the Evaluation Council delegation.

The master plan for the development of Moc Chau National Tourism Area in Son La province until 2020, with a vision towards 2030, was approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 2050/QD-TTg dated November 12, 2014. The goal of this plan is to develop Moc Chau National Tourism Area into a dynamic tourism development hub in Son La province and the midland mountainous region of Northern Vietnam. It aims to achieve a diverse, unique, branded, and highly competitive tourism product system, closely linked to the natural landscape and cultural identity of ethnic groups.

The recognition of Moc Chau National Tourism Area holds significant importance in enhancing the region's status, restructuring the economy, and promoting the potential tourism development of Moc Chau and Vân Hồ. It marks a crucial step towards meeting the socio-economic development requirements of Son La province as a whole and Moc Chau National Tourism Area in particular. It contributes to economic growth in the region, accelerating the province's overall development. This is an opportunity for Moc Chau National Tourism Area to continue striving for excellence and improving the quality of tourism in all aspects. Moreover, it will play a pivotal role as the nucleus and economic, commercial, tourism, and service development center of the Northwestern region, in line with Vietnam's Tourism Development Strategy until 2030.

Speaking at the working session, on behalf of the Provincial People's Committee, Mrs. Trang Thi Xuan expressed gratitude for the attention of the National Tourism Administration of Vietnam to Son La province in general and the tourism industry of Son La in particular. Son La province hopes to receive the support and assistance from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the National Tourism Administration of Vietnam, and the Evaluation Council for the dossier proposing the recognition of Moc Chau National Tourism Area.
